vs Largo (2010-06-25)

Anothr beautiful evening at Largo and another chance to give our youngsters a chance at hard ball cricket.

Although progress has been slow so far this summer there are indeed some real positives as improvements are being seen throughout the squad and thanks to Duncans continued efforts at training to increase the players knowledge of the techniques required in the field, we are now reducing considerably the amount of extras we were giving away.

Each player contributed in the field with some great stops to some big hitters and very quick and accurate throw ins to the keeper. Our bowling, although wayward at times does also show a great improvement and once the new nets arrive at McKane hopefully more practice will result in more wickets.

And onto the match. Largo scored a total of 161 with 120 off the bat. Superb shot making by four of their players (Dodds, Miller, Naismith and Coates) saw them all retire hitting 17 boundaries between them.  Vivek was our only wicket taker clean bowling their opener.

In reply we managed 95 losing the match by 66 runs. Everyone got a chance to bat but losing four wickets to run outs just as runs were starting to be added shows a lack of match awareness that can be worked on and will bring better results in the future.  Good accurate bowling from Largo kept us pinned down and with 4 more wickets attributed to clean bowls made it impossible for us to mount any real challenge.

Well done to Lisa for her 11 runs and to Ben who hung in with 51 not out.
