Match Report
vs Largo 4th X1 (2010-07-11)
Blown away at Largo.................Quite literally
Dunfermline 3rd XI vs Largo 4th XI – Dunf 58 all out, Largo 59-8
On quite possibly the windiest day I have ever played cricket on, we travelled with the now customary “youthful” XI to Largo for our league match, what started out looking like a wet grey day, turned out to be a lovely sunny day in the east neuk, tempered with gale force winds!!! It would be fair to say no batsmen really got accustomed to the conditions.
After losing the toss and being put in we lost wickets at a fairly steady pace with the wind causing mayhem with the ball, the gale force winds were even making it hard to stand upright, although we did contribute to our own downfall with some schoolboy errors in our running between the wickets, Scotty and David have good reason to be slightly miffed this morning!!
So we ended up with 58, not the best score and if I’m honest I thought this would be over in a very short space of time and at least we’d all be home in time for the WC final!
But Sharma and Donald decided that wasn’t the script they were working off, both bowled beautifully, Donald being again unlucky not to pick up any wickets, but his economy was excellent, Sharma Lucas is steadily turning into the teams most consistent wicket taking bowler, he ripped through their opening batsmen and started to change my mind on the eventual result. We fielded really well and all the bowlers chipped in, special mention also goes to Mushy for his excellent keeping where he got at least two stumpings, so when we had them 8 down and they needed 4 to win it really was up in the air as to how the eventual winner would be, as our bowlers were really putting some excellent pressure on them. Step forward the Largo skipper who promptly whacked a boundary to end the game, we put up an excellent effort and nearly sneaked the win and that was down to the team effort.
Big thanks to Willie Anderson and his Largo side for an excellent game and a good laugh
Over and out
