Match Report

vs Holy Cross 3rd X1 (2010-07-03)

A WIN...................................

So my hopes for a first win as skipper have been answered!!

3rd XI vs Holy Cross   Dunf 206-5 vs Holy Cross 147 a/o

So another day with a team of nine 16’s or under and apart from some interesting sibling rivalry all was good for the 3rd XI this weekend

As I had mentioned previously I thought that our batting had been the weakest of our three disciplines this season, however this last two weeks have seen some really good batting by the kids, from Coops, to Scotty, Thomas (aka Sharma the Scavenger) & David Timmins have all scored some good runs. However this week seen the stepping up of Ben 109 n/o is a fantastic score and was the mainstay of our total on Sat, ably supported again by Sharma the Scavenger............. After having to temporarily retiring hurt, Ben returned to craft his first 100 of the season against, possibly one of the more mature attacks we have faced this season.

It has to be said it was a 17 yr old who temp retired him after being struck on the shoulder, but nothing should take away from a magnificent innings, nicely finished off by a six off the final ball of the innings against the boy who had earlier struck him on the shoulder.

So for the second week running we batted all our overs and made two excellent totals, a point I reiterated at the start of the match which I wanted to be our focus for the match.

We were fairly confident in protecting our score, and even with Ben not bowling till the 20th over to give him a well earned rest, I thought we bowled well, Sharma again bowling well picking up three wickets. I still think some of our fielding still needs improving and improving the consistency of our bowling, but hey a wins a win!!!

Great effort from the team and a well deserved win for us all, makes a good weekend for the club......
