Welcome to Dunfermline Cricket Club
Welcome to Dunfermline Cricket Club
Dunfermline Cricket Club’s home ground is McKane Park which is located on the southwest area of Dunfermline. The Club forms part of Dunfermline Sports Club which also offers squash and rugby.
At our AGM in October the Club welcomed back to McKane Park the players from Dunfermline Wanderers Cricket Club and we are all looking forward to Season 2013.
The Club runs two Saturday sides and in 2013 both will be competing in the East League. Our 1st XI will be in Division 1 and our 2nd XI in Division 6. The Clubs’ emphasis is on youth development and with that in mind there are a number of youngsters who will be vying for places in our 1st and 2nd XI
In 2011 Dunfermline were losing finalists in the Scottish Cup to Tunnocks Uddingston and semi-finalists in the Murgitroyd National 20/20. The Club also take part in the Fife Cup which we won in 2011.
There are a number of Cup Matches to be played on Sundays which include the Murgitroyd National 20/20, Presidents Trophy and CS Challenge Cup. The Club will also compete on Sundays in the Forth Cricket Union 30/30 Competition.
Dunfermline have a promising youth section with teams at Under 11, 13, 15 and 17 levels. A number of our colts play for Scotland, The Caledonian Academy and for Fife, before moving to experience a much friendlier enviroment.
Since 2001 Dunfermline have run a comprehensive coaching programme with local Primary Schools in Dunfermline and the surrounding area. The coaches started in 5 Primary Schools but this has since escalated over the 12 years to 21 in number. At the conclusion of the coaching programme the schools take part in the P6 Kwik Cricket Festival which is sponsored by Dunfermline & West Fife Sports Council and the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust. Our local ASDA stores provide the children with soft drinks & water as well as some healthy eating food during the Festival matches.
This year the Festival will be held at McKane Park on Wednesday 29th May with the Fife finals also being held at McKane on Wednesday 5th June. The Scottish finals are held at Doo’cot Park, Perth on Wednesday 19th June. Club President, Nancy Gibson said “ A lot of effort has been put into the schools coaching programme of 21 schools in Dunfermline & West Fife and we are now beginning to see the results through attendances at the colts coaching & training sessions”.
